Where do I start?

I have grand plans for this site. There are so many boat things I think about, learn and discover that I thought I’d try to gather them all here, in one place. At least the bulk of it. I currently sail a 27′ Fingal without a name. It didn’t have one when I bought it and haven’t forced myself to come up with something clever yet. Maybe “Avoid Rocks”? It has a GRP hull, is similar to a Pearson Triton and was designed by Knud Reimers and built around 1965. It is a beautiful hull with a not-so-beautiful (high) doghouse. Standing headroom in the companionway though. I’m thinking about rebuilding it but that will have to wait as there are more pressing modifications/improvements that need to be done.

In Sweden, on the way home

Specifications:
LOA 8.3 m
LWL 6.45 m
Beam 2.3 m
Draft 1.32 m
Displacement 3000 kg
Ballast 1250 kg (42%)

I bought it from Sweden in late summer 2012 and sailed it home to Finland. Currently I’m designing a soft wing sail for it. A home made self-steering gear (servo-pendulum) is also in the works. And perhaps a rigid dinghy. More on that and a bunch of other things later.

  1. Looks like a nice, solid boat. Wing sail? as on a Wharram Tiki? I built the Boon wind vane self steering, works well on my Albin Cirrus.

  2. Hi Oscar
    Interesting reading!
I have thought like you, nice hull, ugly top and am thinking of rebuilding an old Fingal.
How did it go for you? Is the project still running? Have you posted more material about your work?

    all the best, Andreas
